Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Pat the chicken breasts dry and season with salt and black pepper.
Heat the olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté for 4–5 minutes, until softened.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Remove from heat. Place the chicken breasts on the onions and garlic.
In a small bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce and chicken broth, then pour it over the chicken to coat evenly.
Cover with the lid and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temp: 165°F).
For thicker sauce and caramelized top, remove the lid and bake uncovered for the last 5–10 minutes.
Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
